GIS Coordinator

Pete is the GIS Coordinator at the GIS Center. He earned his Master of Science degree in Marine Geology from the University of Miami where he conducted historical aerial photograph analysis of the sedimentological and environmental changes in Biscayne Bay. His research has a local focus and has included studying coastal marshlands, understanding the karst geology of the Miami area limestones, reconstructing historical surface flows to Biscayne Bay, documenting nutrient loading to South Florida estuaries, mapping historical vegetation patterns, and mapping other scientific data. Pete is among the first South Florida scientists to use LiDAR data to understand the impacts of sea level rise. His sea level inundation maps have appeared in various news and media outlets, as well the US Congressional record.
