Poster Printing

We provide plotting of posters and panels using the HP DesignJet 5500 plotter.

Printing Sizes

The HP DesignJet 5500 plotter uses paper rolls up to 60 inches in width. However, the shortest edge of the printable area must not exceed 58 inches. When we prepare the document for printing, we add a one inch margin around the document (one inch at the top, bottom, left and right).

Poster layout should be made to actual final print size. Text and images should be kept at least one inch from the edge of the poster.

Poster Cost

Payments must be made in advance either by Inter-Departmental Transfer (IDT), Requisition Form, Personal Check, or Money Order made out to “Florida International University”. We do not accept Cash or Credit Cards.

Posters with a White Background

$1.80 per inch i.e. 36 inches in width by 56 inches in height will cost $68.40 (36in x $1.80)

Posters with a Colored Background

$2.16 per inch i.e. 36 inches in width by 56 inches in height will cost $77.76 (36in x $2.16)

Print price of posters is $1.80 multiplied by the running length of the paper in inches. Posters with solid backgrounds and large solid borders will be printed at $2.16 per inch, due to the greater usage of ink.

For example, a PowerPoint document with dimensions of 36 inches in width by 56 inches in height will cost $68.40 (36 x 1.80), OR $77.76 (36 x 2.16) if it has a color background or a broad, colored border.
Additional services provided by GIS Center staff, such as restructuring of documents, will require an additional fee of $50 per hour — so be sure to size and organize the poster correctly.

File Format

Posters are usually printed in PowerPoint format, although Acrobat PDF or Photoshop files may be accepted if necessary.

The GIS Center requires that posters to be printed be brought in at least 24 hours before the finished product is needed.

For larger quantities, posters should be brought in a couple of days in advance of need, to ensure enough time for drying and cropping.

Paper and Color

Color printing is done on High Gloss Photo paper.
